Airbrush [servo motor]

PreviousPen Lift [with suspension]

Last updated 4 months ago

This pen tool head uses a servo/hobby motor to lift the needle of an airbrush to activate. A few centimeters of this pin will will need to be clipped. The file also has a Z axis mount for a Nema 17 motor.

The part has one issue, the air pressure cannot be regulated very easily. Normally you can depress the trigger slightly with your finger to modify the airflow. This part attempts to solve this with a small screw which can be tightened to allow more or less airflow. However this will mean the air is ALWAYS on. Without the pin retracted paint will not flow, so this sort of works. Maybe a solinoid could work here? Modifications to soon follow.

Parts List

The components for this tool head can be 3D printed individually and assembled using:

  • 1x 1" M5 screw

  • 6x 3" M3 screws

  • Small length of a timing belt (5-6")

  • 1 SG90 Hobby / Servo Motor

  • 1 Nema 17 Motor (20mm thick is great for this)

  • A cheap airbrush - I used an "ABEST Dual-action Airbrush Kit for Makeup Nail Art"
